REPORT ON NATIONAL CONFERENCE CONDUCTED BY BFCMT

Baba Farid College of Management & Technology under the aegis of Baba Farid Group of Institutions is managed by Baba Farid Vidyak Society which was founded in 1993 under the encouraging patronage of prominent educationists of Malwa Region of Punjab. The society aims at providing quality education at affordable fee along with preparing the young minds to face the competitive world on all fronts. The lush green campus, spread over 50 acres, is situated 4 kms. away from the municipal limits of Bathinda city on Bathinda – Muktsar Road. The campus offers  a host of hi-tech ultra modern facilities to ensure well planned education to its students.
A National Conference on 'Strategic Management of Business Development: Issues and Prospects' was organized by Baba Farid College of Management and Technology (BFCMT) on 20-21 April, 2011. The conference was aimed at providing knowledge – sharing platform of meaningful interaction to deliberate, discuss and recommend an actionable strategy on the development and dissemination of strategic management and its application to the development of business throwing a light on the future prospects. The Conference was addressed by a number of experts from the field of research, academics, business and industry who came from different parts of the country. More than hundred papers were received and selected papers were being published in the proceedings book bearing ISBN. Such a overwhelming response showed by the participants from all over the country and the highly commendable efforts of the organising committee made this first National Conference of BFCMT a tremendous success.
The papers presented in this conference rekindled the knowledge of scholars and academicians from various colleges and research institutes and also the industry professionals by exposing their skills and views in different advancing areas of Strategic Management.

THE INAUGURATION
The inauguration of the conference was done with lighting of lamp by the honourable Chief Guest Mr. Harish Mehta, former CFO of Gini & Jony kids wear and presently, an independent Management Consultant for some leading retail brands in India. The guest of honour and the key note speaker of the first session was Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Associate Professor, School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala. Honourable Managing Director of Baba Farid Group of Instituions, S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaiwal welcomed the guests, delegates, faculty and the students. In his inaugural address, Mr. Dhaliwal emphasized on the need for free mind and innovation and encouraged the students to enhance their skills for their overall development. The book of proceedings and Compact Disk was released during the inaugural session.

THE CHIEF GUEST
The Chief Guest of the National Conference, Mr. Harish Mehta appreciated the infrastructure and facilities provided by the Baba Farid Group of Institutions. He applauded the fruitful efforts of our honourable Managing Director, S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal  for his contribution in the field of education. In his interaction with the faculty and students, he motivated them to achieve the goals of their life with confidence.

THE KEY NOTE ADDRESS
Dr. Gurcharan Singh, in his Keynote Address presented a paper on, “Sustainable Development in India: Perspective of Strategic Management.” He threw light on the present  growth scenario in India by justifying his thoughts with the facts and figures searched by him from an authentic data source. He stressed on the need of eradicating corruption from the country and fight against the major social and economic issues that are retarding the growth of the country.

TECHNICAL SESSION I      (20 / 04 / 2011)
The technical session started with the paper presentation of the delegates. The Chairperson of the Session was Dr. Ram Singh, Associate Professor, School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala. Some of the papers presented in this session included Financial Crisis Causes and Impacts, The Four P’s of Strategy Creation, Best Human Resource Practices in India. The papers presented were from all fields of management that described the implementation of various innovative and creative strategies for stimulating the business growth.

TECHNICAL SESSION II     (20 / 04 / 2011)
The technical session II was chaired by Dr. Amandeep Singh, Assistant Professor, University School of Business Studies, Guru Kashi Campus, Talwandi Sabo. The session was fruitful in terms of healthy discussions on news ideas for the betterment of employees in the organisation. The Pricing and Marketing Strategies were discussed in detail with special reference to Mc Donald’s. The new prospects of Green Marketing and environmental accounting were also a good learning.

TECHNICAL SESSION III    (20 / 04 / 2011)
Mr. Vikasdeep Aggarwal, Assistant Professor, University School of Business Studies, Guru Kashi Campus, Talwandi Sabo, chaired the technical session III. There were interesting research papers presented on ethics in Human Resource Management. Another research paper highlighted the role of personal effectiveness played in optimal management.

TECHNICAL SESSION IV   (21 / 04 / 2011)
The technical session IV Session II was marked by presentation of papers by the delegates from academics, industries as well as researchers and students. The Chairperson of the Session was Dr. Dayal Bhatnagar, Assistant Professor, University School of Business Studies, Talwandi Sabo. The paper presentations covered various aspects of Human Resources like Work-family Conflict in Dual Earner Couples, Changing Trends in Human Resource Management, etc. The paper titled, “Income Statement as Stakeholder’s Value Driver Working Capital Management - Enhancing Core Value” highlighted the importance of working capital. An interesting case study was presented on tourism prospects in Mizoram.

TECHNICAL SESSION V     (21 / 04 / 2011)
The session was chaired by Mr. Gaurav Garg, Head Training and Placement Cell, Baba Farid Group of Institutions, Bathinda. Informatory papers on Non Performing Assets of banks, Impact of financial crisis on Indian economy were presented. The delegates also presented their work of research on marketing strategies for growing business and factors affecting consumer behaviour. Overall, the session was quite interesting.

TECHNICAL SESSION VI   (21 / 04 / 2011)
Ms. Neetu Singh, Head of the Department, Baba Farid College of Management & Technology, Bathinda was the chairperson in this session. This session witnessed paper resentations from the students of BFCMT who shared their thoughts on some really interesting topics such as Black Money, Management Strategies in Mahabharat, etc.

THE VALEDICTION
The Valediction Ceremony started at 11:30 a.m. on the second day of the conference. The Chief Guest of that day was Er. Jaspal Singh, Chief Engineer Distribution, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, West Zone, Bathinda. The valedictory session brought together the organisers, speakers, delegates, exhibitors and sponsors, from all over India to retrospect and put forth their thoughts and ideate over the culmination of the event. The inputs received at the session added to the glory and splendour of the conference. The guests and the delegates acknowledged the hard efforts of the institute from conducting a highly organized and well scheduled conference. The honourable dignitaries were honoured and the delegates were offered participation certificates.

THE CLOSING STAGE
The grandeur of National Conference on 'Strategic Management of Business Development: Issues and Prospects' came to its conclusion with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Manish Bansal, Director Principal, BFCMT. He extended his gratitude to the guests of honour, eminent speakers, scholars and delegates who presented their works at the conference. He also appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee for the successful conduct of the first National Conference of BFCMT.
